Wandaba Style-Review (ZzzzZZZz)

12 Episodes (Should Have Ended At 10...)

Art/Animation: B-
Nothing To Write Home About. The Opening Animation Is "Cute" and The Girls Fairly Attractive. The Colors Are Bright and Festive. As For The Rest,The Less Said The Better.

Story:C
I Was Seriously Waiting For The Series To End.After Episode 10,The Story Was Over For Me.For a Series About Singing,There Was Almost None It Except For One Song Repeated Episode After Episode. No Character Development Whatsoever. The Doctor He/She Character Was As Annoying As a Teething Child. An Episode 5 Recap For a 12 Episode Series Is a Really BAD Sign. The Plot Is Just One Failed Plan After Another and Gets Aggravating Soon.

Voice Acting: B
Wandaba Style's Only Saving Grace.I Would Have Give Higher Marks If The Actresses Had Actually Sung Or Had a Remotely Challenging Script. The All-Star Female Cast Is Wasted On An Uninspired Anime. They Do Have Sweet Voices,Especially Monica Rial;Who Is At Least In Every Episode This Time Around.

Music: C
The Opening And Ending Are Very Generic.I Ended Up Skipping Both After The First Volume. You Either Hear The Characters Whine,The One Song The Girls Recorded (Heart Mix,I Think...) Or The Erectile Suppressant Wandanba Wandaba Wandaba Wandaba Wandaba Wandaba. The Music Gets a Little Better From Episode 9 Onwards But I Had Completely Lost Complete Interest By Then.

Fan Service: B-
My Expectations In This Regard Were Fairly High,The Box Showed Promising Pictures Of The Girls In Cheerleader Outfits And Bikinis. We See None Of These IN The Show.In The Closing Theme,It Really Does Not Count. The Character That Ends Up Showing The Most Skin Is The Nubile Robot And Only For Plot Purposes (She Has To Recharge Herself With Solar Energy Absorbed By The Skin).

First Of All,I Was Expecting a Great Show After Listening To The Voice Actors And Director, John Swasey Mention How Much Fun They Had Making Wandaba Style During The Shadow Skill Commentaries. The Entire Series Is Childish,Has No Rhythm And Lacks Originality. The Spade Inventor, Tsukumo Really Ruins The Series.Wandaba Style Was Supposed To Be About 4 Girls Forming a Band and SINGING.There Is Only ONE Song Before The Last Episode and We Only See The Girls Practice Or Start the Song a Few Times.Instead,We Get a STUPID Series About Going To The Moon To Fulfill An Obviously Gay Little Boy.Did I Mention The Wandanba Wandaba Wandaba Wandaba Wandaba Wandaba Made Me Want To Kill Myself ? The Few Funny Lines Quickly Fade Out To Leave Way For a Space Race Between Mother And Child. There Are Also Quite a Few Bad Puns:
"One Way Trip To Uranus."
"Mix Juice Is Sweet,Get It?" Sadly,I DO...

Wandaba Style Is (Or Was Supposed To Be) The Story Of Four Lovely Young Ladies That Eventually For a Band,Mix Juice To Fulfill Their Dreams Of Reaching Pop Idol Status.Instead,The Series Focuses On Their Struggle To Get Money To Finance a Concert. They End Up a Post As Basically Test Pilots For The Delusions Of a Failed Genius,Tsukumo,Who Wishes To Land on The Moon. Will The Money-Making Schemes Of Mix Juice's Manager Launch Their Career To The Stratosphere ? (Pun Intended).

Characters (In Order Of Preference):

Himawari Natsuwa (Monica Rial): The Unofficial Leader of Mix Juice,Natsuwa Sings Japanese Ballads and Wears a Kimono and Hair Ribbons. The Traditional Japanese Girl Has Raven Black Hair,The Second Largest Chest Among Mix Members Has The Cutest Voice and Is The Most Realistic of The Girls.Strangely,She Worked Construction Before Joining The Group. Her Best Line Is:
"My Fans Actually Watch TV!".She Reminded Me Of Rei From Sailor Moon,My Favorite Sailor.

Yuri Fuyude (Kira Vincent Davis): Tallest and Most Well-Endowed of The Girls,She Is The Rocker And Most Determined Of Mix.Her Long Brown Hair And Sailor Suit Complement Her Great Figure. The Self-Proclaimed Musical Genius Gets Jealous Of More Successful Girls:
"That Girl Does Not Have an Artistic Bone In Her Body!".The Other Girls Remind Her That She Cannot Hold a Job and Her Temper Flares Up Quite Often. She Shows The Most Cleavage Among The "Mix".

Kiku#8 (Hilary Haag): A Test Computer Satellite With Short Red Hair and Eyes That Follows Orders and Gradually Forms Her Personality Through Interaction With Others. At First,Her Reactions Do Not Correspond To The Correct Emotions and She Brings The Most Humor To The Series. In Mortal Danger She Coldly States:"I Wonder Where I Am Going To Crash Land?" and As She Starts Feeling Emotions:
"Dr. Tsukumo Just This Instant I Have Just Experienced a New and Wonderful Emotion Called Getting Pissed Off.".I Have To Commend Hilary Haag On Her Lovely Voice and Comedic Timing In This Role.

Sakura Haruno (Luci Christian): Youngest,Shortest and Lightest Among The Girls,She Takes Great Pride In These Facts and Mentions It Quite Often. The Former Nursery Rhyme Singer Is The "Cutesiest" Of The Girls,Dressing Like a Little Girl,Signs Her Name With a Bunny. The Only Blond Goes As Far As Selling Her Undies on The Internet To Stay Afloat. While Natsuwa Is Determined,Haruno Stays Grounded and Does Not Hesitate To Use Flattery To Get Her Money.

Michael Haganata: Mix Juice's Manager. His Tremendous Self-Confidence Often Has Him Going Overboard and Providing a Second Source Of Comedy. His Afro Not Only Gives Him The Nickname "Fuzzy" But Also Serves As Covering For Yuri's Bits In One Funny Scene. We Do Not Hear His Name Until The 4th Episode As He Keeps Getting Interrupted. His Voice Is Scruffy. Here Is The Precious Advice He Gives The Girls:
"You Cannot Get Famous If You Are Normal."

Ayame Fuyude (Nancy Novotny): The Ugliest of The Girls Of Mix Juice That Sees and Talks To Imaginary Fairies Is a Shy Folk Singer Hippie.I Guess The Show Needed Four Girls As She Brings Nothing To The Series.

Susumu Tsukumo: A Young "Doctor" Coming From a Wealthy Family Of Astronauts,His Dream Is To Get To The Moon.An Environmental Nut,His Plans Focus More About Being "Eco Friendly" Than Effective. He Wears PINK Goggles,a PINK Shirt and a Heart-Shaped Lab Coat. His Whiny Voice Is Unbearable. He Gets Moody If The Shoe Fits:"Do Not Call Me Little BOY!".Yes,Call Him Little GIRL or B***.Seriously,He Is Voiced By a Woman And Wears Pink,What Does He Expect ? I First Thought IT Was Female and When We See His Buns,I Was Sure It Was One Of The Girl's.

The Show Does Have a Few Decent Scenes And Ideas. The "Lung Battle" Between Mix Juice and Another Girl Band,Try Force Is Funny.Since The Latter Are Dressed In Cheerleader Outfits,It Made Me Think Of Bring It On,a Movie That Always Gets Me "Happy".Lying About Their Weight Causes One Of The Failures. There Is a Tribute The Super Mario Brothers In a Shot With a Pipeline,a Plant Coming Out Of a Pipe and Some Coins.I Guess That Was The Series Targeted Audience Age.One Scene Has The Old As Time Substitution Of Helium For Oxygen and Ensuing "Vocal Disturbance".The Giant Metallic Arms That Shake One Of The Test Ships Was Obviously a Masturbation Metaphor.Sadly,The Show Fails To Even Cause THAT! The Translation Is Quite Poor.As Proof:
"You Two ARE Sure Persistent."
